The Week in Bentos: July 23-27, 2012

by Wendy Copley on July 27, 2012

We had a light week of bento lunches because Wyatt had a terrible cold and stayed home from camp most of the week. My preschooler Augie, however, ate heartily! Check it out:

Monday

Wyatt was home from camp with a sore throat on Monday. Seriously — this kid has been sick almost every Monday this summer! Augie has Mondays off preschool, so there were no lunch boxes.

Tuesday

Preschool Bento #307

On Tuesday, I packed Augie a super colorful lunch box without even meaning to! The top section of his LunchBots Trio held blueberries and pineapple. The left side had a turkey sandwich cut into a kitty cat shape with sugar snap peas underneath. The last section had gold fish crackers, strawberries and a licorice scottie dog for a treat. When I showed it to him, he came up with a little story to go along with it. The kitty is trying to eat the fish and the dog is offering them protection. If the kitty gets the fish, he will escape on the pineapple train tracks. Clever!

Wyatt stayed home from camp again on Tuesday but I’d already packed him this lunch by the time we decided he was too sick to go so he ate this at home. He had strawberries, pineapple, blueberries, Star Wars sandwiches, grapes, crackers and a licorice dog. This was packed in our PlanetBox.

Wednesday

Preschool Bento #308

On Wednesday, I packed Augie’s lunch in a single layer of the monbento lunch box that we’re testing out. This is a two-tiered bento box and it’s a little larger than the ones we normally use, so a single layer held plenty of food for a four-year-old. He had two heart-shaped peanut butter sandwiches, blueberries, yellow bell pepper strips, grape tomatoes, a few mixed nuts and a strawberry.

Thursday

Preschool Bento #309

Thursday, Augie had blueberries, strawberries, raisins, wheat thins, clementine wedges, and baked teriyaki tofu.

Day Camp Bento #629

Wyatt actually went to camp on Thursday and he had the exact same lunch with the addition of a few carrots.

Friday

Preschool Bento #310

Today, Augie had cucumber slices, orange wedges, nuts, raisins, deli turkey roll-ups and crackers.
