The Week in Bentos: December 12-16, 2011

by Wendy Copley on December 16, 2011

Ahhhhh…the last full week of school before winter vacation. Augie will still be going to preschool next week, but Wyatt will be off and I’m very much looking forward to a slower pace in the mornings starting on Monday. But this week was a full week of lunches and I bet you’re absolutely dying to see them. Dying!

No? Well, here they are anyway!

Monday

Second Grade Bento #524

Monday, Wyatt took the Laptop Lunch Box to school, as is his custom. It held: two cream cheese spritz cookies, grapes, Cheez-its, clementine wedges, turkey meatballs and catsup.

Tuesday

Preschool Bento #195

We had turkey meatloaf for dinner on Monday night and the kids begged me to put it in their lunches for Tuesday. Augie’s lunch had the meatloaf, of course, as well as rice, clementines and canned peaches that I drained and rinsed under running water to reduce the added sugar and mess.

Second Grade Bento #525

Wyatt had cookies, Laughing Cow cheese, whole wheat crackers, meatloaf, Cheez-its and canned mixed fruit with sprinkles. Looking at this now, I realize I should have put sprinkles on Augie’s peaches too. Next time. This lunch was packed in the Easy Lunchbox.

Wednesday

Preschool Bento #196

On Wednesday, Augie had baked tofu that I cut and decorated to look like a snowman (I used food markers and these cookie cutters), edamame, homemade banana bread and sugar snap peas.

Second Grade Bento #526

Wyatt had banana bread, Laughing Cow cheese, crackers, grapes, snap peas and his own tofu snowman.

Thursday

Preschool Bento #197

On Thursday, Augie had grapes, banana bread chunks, turkey meatballs from the freezer, leftover green beans from dinner and grape tomatoes. See how I made this lunch Christmas-y by putting the red and green veggies together? That was totally on purpose. I absolutely planned that.

Second Grade Bento #527

Wyatt’s lunch had garlic naan, a clementine, turkey meatballs, catsup (in the blue box), banana bread and grapes.

Friday

Preschool Bento #198

Today Augie had a gingerbread man lunch. I cut his pb&j into a gingerbread man shape and surrounded it with grapes in the bottom half of our Panda Bento Box. The top half had Triscuits topped with soy cheese that was cut with a little gingerbread man cutter. I filled in the rest of the space with dried apricots.
