Looking back at 2014, Looking forward to 2015

by Wendy Copley on January 5, 2015

Happy new year! I hope you had a fun, restful, and joyful holiday season. I’m excited to start a new year and I’ve been enjoying looking back on the year that has just passed.

To wrap up 2014, I made a video showing all of the 365 bento boxes I packed throughout the year. (No, I’m not claiming to have packed one a day — some days I packed three bentos, other days I packed zero. Though it’s cool that it worked out to one per day on average!)

365 Bento Boxes in 60 Seconds:

Phwew! That’s a lot of lunches.

Changes are Coming:

I also wanted to take a minute to fill you in on some changes coming to Wendolonia this year. The biggie is that I’m no longer going to be posting The Week in Bentos. I took a good hard look at the amount of time I was putting into these posts (a lot) and compared it to the number of people who are reading them (not many) and decided it no longer makes sense for me to devote so much time to a weekly wrap-up in this particular format.

But fear not! I will still be taking daily lunch photos and posting them to the Bento Box Gallery and I hope this continues to serve as a valuable resource to those of you who are looking for lunch-packing ideas. This morning I posted the TWO THOUSANDTH photo to the gallery, so there is tons of inspiration in there! I’m also going to be making a big push in the coming months to ensure that every photo in the gallery is properly tagged and updated with a title and at least a brief description.

And I will continue to post lots and lots of bento photos to my blog — just not every photo.  Instead of weekly posts, keep an eye out for themed lunch round-ups, lots of bento ideas and more frequent tutorials.

Thanks for reading Wendolonia! The year ahead is going to be fantastic!

I love your posts and it is inspiration. I know how much work goes in to it though since I am packing two each day.

Oh no, I’m always so inspired by your weekly posts. Thanks to you, my daughter brings the most exotic lunches to kindergarten. (compared to the others. In Germany the kids usually bring a sandwich and an apple 8-)).
Would it be possible to list the contents of the boxes below the pics in the gallery? That would be great!!
I’m looking forward to a new year with you! Happy 2015 from Germany and thank you very much for your inspiring blog!

  • Yes — I’ll be tagging and adding descriptions to the photos in the gallery. At least that’s my goal! Happy new year to you too!

Love your posts Wendy! I have been reading your blog for a few years and it has inspired me to make bento style lunches for my son. They don’t look as camera-ready as yours, but your photos are a great reminder to pack extra fruit/veg and keep mixing things up! Thank you!! Looking forward to the changes.

I’m so sorry to hear that you won’t be doing the “Week in Bento” any more. I’m probably one of your most faithful readers (I’ve read for at least 5-6 years; maybe more), and the Week in Bento has always been my favorite. I’m not even sure why I read it so faithfully; my middle school son has never wanted cute lunches, and eats school lunch these days (his district makes food on site). But it’s been something I’ve always looked forward to — even your change from Friday to Monday was hard.
    Best to you.

Hi Wendy! While I’m sad to see the week in lunches go, I’m excited to see what you do now! I love your lunches and photography. I’m looking forward to a seeing your great year ahead!

Loved seeing all your lunches from last year! Wow! Looking forward to seeing many more in 2015!

Oh man, I love the round ups! I always look forward to seeing the week in bentos.

  • Wow! So many great ideas in packing various ingredients in lunch boxes. Looking forward to see your creations in 2015.

I have been followingyour blog for 3 years now. Although I don’t read it daily and perhaps skip a week every now and then, I always find myself doing catch up an re-reading the tast week I left off, the missed week and the current week. Your week in bento will be missed dearly.

  • Awe so sad, but your boys are getting bigger and I know the time is very time consuming. I’m trying to only do one bento a week on my blog, but even then I only am doing about every other. I am loving doing videos making them though, so will still keep working on them. I love your video!!!
