The Week in Bentos: September 17-21, 2012

by Wendy Copley on September 21, 2012

Hey everyone! The space shuttle flew over my house this morning so I’m in a super good mood! That has absolutely nothing to do with the topic of this post but it was fun and exciting so I had to share.

Let’s get back on track and check out some lunches!

Monday

Third Grader Bento Box #649

On Monday Wyatt had a boatload of strawberries, mini hotdogs, crackers, jello and a small piece of pumpkin coffee cake. The cake was made with this recipe (I left the glaze off though). The hotdogs were stamped with my sausage stampers and I specifically chose mini hotdogs (purchased at Trader Joes) over little smokies in the hope that the stamps would work better. They did work a bit better, but not nearly well enough for my liking.

Tuesday

Third Grader Bento Box #650

Tuesday, Wyatt’s lunch was packed in the Laptop Lunches bento box: strawberries, Laughing Cow cheese, carrots, whole wheat pretzels wrapped with strips of turkey, and goldfish crackers.

Augie was home sick from school, so no lunch for him.

Wednesday

Preschool Bento #330

Augie was back in school on Wednesday. His Steeltainer lunch box held mini hotdogs, applesauce in a Mini-Dipper container, coffee cake, orange pepper strips and little tomatoes from our garden. I forgot to pack him a spoon for his applesauce which I do all the time. It was particularly bad this time because we were talking about how I always forget to pack spoons for the applesauce while I was packing his lunch.  Duh.

Third Grader Bento Box #651

Wyatt’s nearly identical lunch was packed in our PlanetBox. I swapped out goldfish for the peppers because there was no way in heck he’d willingly eat a pepper. I also remembered to pack him a spoon.

Thursday

Preschool Bento #331

Thursday, Augie had more orange pepper strips, a strawberry, goldfish, grapes and mini school bus pb&j sandwiches. I used a silicone divider to separate the grapes from the crackers and I packed this in our LunchBots Trio.

We were super late this morning, so Wyatt had to have school lunch.

Friday

Preschool Bento #332

Today, Augie had a rainbow of fruits and veggies in his lunch: strawberries, Thomcord grapes, a Yoda pb&j sandwich, cucumbers, carrots and red pepper strips. I also included a small container of hummus to dip the veggies.

Third Grader Bento Box #652

Wyatt had a crescent roll and pork tenderloin that were leftover from dinner last night, along with strawberries, grapes, corn and a few goldfish cookies.

  • I love your blog & you inspire me to make healthy lunches for my kids!! thank you for sharing. =) It’s been 2 weeks now that I’ve been packing Bento lunches & my boys enjoy it & have not asked to eat in the cafeteria. So Thank You again for all the great ideas & to show that kids can enjoy healthy lunches.

P.S. I didn’t get too see the shuttle today, I just heard it fly by in Long Beach. =)

I really like how tasty and attractive your lunches look this week! I’ll have to try packing mini hot dogs. Ever since i ordered my boys each a Norpro Appetizer Spork, I’ve stopped forgetting to pack silverware for them. They love their special bento sporks!

Love the mini hot dogs in the bentos. Packed them for my son when I saw them on your blog; by far his favorite lunch he always asks the teacher for “more hot dog”. I just wish my kids were as willing to eat things as yours; it would make packing lunches funner for me!
