The Week in Bentos: October 3-7, 2011

by Wendy Copley on October 7, 2011

Here are this week’s lunches:

Monday

Second Grader Bento #491

On Monday Wyatt’s lunch was packed into a simple hinged lid bento box. He had catsup sandwiches on garlic naan bread (an old favorite that I find disgusting but he loves), strawberries and deli ham roll-ups on decorative picks. The only thing he ate from lunch this day was the little sandwiches.

Tuesday

Preschool Bento #157

On Tuesday, Augie’s lunch was chock full o’ silicone baking cups. He had cubed baked tofu, cherry tomatoes, strawberries and garlic naan cut into leaf shapes with these harvest themed cookie cutters. These cutters are nice because they are prefectly sized to be used on the extra bread that was leftover after I cut the bread for Wyatt’s sandwiches (down below). I had virtually no leftover scraps of bread to use up after I attacked them with these little guys.

Second Grader Bento #492

Wyatt’s lunch was packed into the Laptop Lunch box: garlic naan and catsup sandwiches, a brownie bite (this was on of the leftover birthday treats he took to school on Monday), strawberries, baked tofu and little tomatoes.

Wednesday

Preschool Bento #158

On Wednesday, Augie had strawberries, dried apricots and raisins, a deli ham “rose” and more garlic naan cut with the harvest cutters.

Second Grader Bento #493

Wyatt’s lunch was almost the same, just a little bigger: golden raisins, a couple cookies, strawberries, whole grain pretzel sticks, a ham “rose” and garlic naan.

Thursday

Preschool Bento #159

I pulled out the panda bento box for Augie’s lunch on Thursday and filled it with grapes, tomatoes, edamame, and tiny heart-shaped peanut butter sandwiches that I cut with this cute, crazy, wasteful cutter.

Friday

Preschool Bento #160

Today, both boys had leftover pork tenderloin in their lunches. Augie also had some strawberries and a peanut butter sandwich cut into boat, train and car shapes (I used this cutter). He ate the fourth shape, a dog, before I could put it in his lunch box, but that worked out OK because I don’t think it would have fit.

Second Grade Bento #494

Wyatt had a biscuit, apple chunks, golden raisins, canned peaches with sprinkles (I drain and rinse them to remove excess sugar and liquid) and leftover pork.

While the kids were at school today, I went to Williams-Sonoma and I picked up some goodies for making lunches. Look for some fun new things next week!

I used those exact same cutters this week. Plain bread for us, I had a feeling he wouldn’t eat his egg pie (quiche) and hoped those would fill up his tummy. We don’t have a normal lunch in our area, we have two nutrition breaks so I can put some odd things in and I know he’ll get filled up with his second lunch.

  • Wow, these look great!  Thanks for sharing.
