Let’s re-Do Lunch Contest (and a giveaway)

We love raisins in our house and eat them often, so when California Raisins contacted me about their new Let’s re-Do Lunch photo contest, I thought that some of the lovely lunch-packers who read this site might be interested in entering.

You can enter by submitting a healthy lunch or snack photo on the California Raisins Facebook page (the photo must include a visual of California Raisins — no surprise there). The grand prize is pretty sweet: a $5,000 cash prize, a year’s supply of California Raisins, and a donation in the contest winner’s name to the food bank of their choice.

You can visit www.loveyourraisins.com for all of the information necessary to enter. Entries will be accepted through November 8, 2010.

    Favorite snacks? I love raisins and other dried fruits, crackers and pretzels…those are what I always keep stashed in my bag for smack emergencies – non perishible and yum.

  • I have recently started reusing the glass jars that pickles and peanuts come in… I try to keep them full of interesting snack foods, so that the kids have an assorted variety to choose from. They like to make their own snack mix this way. Plus it looks very appetizing to see the foods in the glass jars 🙂 The last refills had dried assorted fruit, nuts, chow mein noodles, rice noodles, yogurt covered raisins, marshmallows (not healthy, i know, but the kids like to throw a few in), nori mix, and goldfish crackers. I am looking for more ideas to put in them… Also the kids love snacking on pickles and popcorn!

    We always have boxes raisins, craisins or a container of goldfish in the bag for a quick snack and they always love whatever fresh fruit is in season.

    My son is a picky eater so we don’t get too fancy with the snacks but he does love raisins, dried cranberries or blueberries, and apple slices 🙂

    I have three boys, and their favorite healthy snack is yogurt. They really like it frozen, which is a great substitute for popsicles!

    The “Best Loved” snack in our house changes from week to week. My sons get hooked on a type of fruit, and it is everything I can do to feed them anything else. This week, it was a cheese stick and a couple gold fish crackers. Next week, it will probably be grapes because it’s been a while since they have attacked a bag of grapes. Oh, and my oldest declared this week the “week of the carrot”…so apparently we’re having lots of carrots this week.

    For hubby and me, we love all fruits. Hubby’s favorite fruit to add to foods (oatmeal, salads, etc) is raisins {not just saying that!}…so we go through a lot of raisins.

    We like to make our own trail mix- goldfish, raisins & cheerios.

  • They are grown now, but I used to fix a “snack plate” with slices of apple and a pile of California (of course!) raisins. As soon as the twins could count, they would count each raisin to make sure they each had the same number. Which meant I had to count the raisins first to avoid trouble!

    Love some raisins! Love them in the morning, love them in the evening!! Love GORP, good old raisins and peanuts!

  • Our favorite snack changes with the seasons, but right now it’s Honey Crisp apples. My 3 year old likes to share a whole apple with me, which is sweet…if not that sanitary.

  • We eat a lot of hummus and veggies, nut butters of all types, fruit of almost any variety and lots of whole grain crackers!

    My son LOVES raisins so ts always there for a snack. He loves fruits too…orange and strawberry are all-time favorites. Pretzels and goldfish are also a part of his snack.

  • We have an organic fruit & veggie delivery service in our area that is awesome! I try to keep plenty of mostly fruits, because my son is so picky about everything else, on hand for healthy snacks. He also enjoys Nutella!

    We’re usually intro dried fruit (raisins, dried cranberries, dried mango slices, yogurt raisins) and/or nuts (peanuts, cashews, almonds), and/or snacky-crackery thinges (goldfish crackers, sesame sticks, pretzels). Stuff that’s easy to pour into a container & take along if necessary. 🙂

    Snack time is fun when we get to pop edamame out of their pods. 🙂 That’s one of our fav snacks and our other main snack is the old standby – cheese.

    Cool! I just did a post about our favorite snacks. Our favorites are bell peppers, apple slices, triscuits, and pretty much any kind of nuts. Oh, and whole wheat bagels with Nutella. Those are always a hit!

    popcorn is a big one at our house, and our son loves pretzels. Our daughter has decided lately that she loves “hand cheese” , which means she holds out her hand, and we put a little shredded cheese in it. I think it has a nice ring to it.

    My son loves all fruits, most veggies sliced up, and cheese. My daughter gets applesauce, strawberries or yogurt because she is pretty picky.

    We make “mix-up”. Basically, it is a trail mix that the kids design. Cut-up dried apricots, raisins, dried blueberries, pretzel sticks, goldfish, dried cereal etc. all shaken up in a little snackbag or container. The kids love the mixing part and are happy to have their own unique snack. I love that it is not messy in the car!

    Some of kiddo’s favorites are hummus with whole grain crackers, homemade yogurt smoothies, and mini oatmeal banana blueberry muffins. Lately, she’s been fond of Newman’s Own spelt pretzels and Just Tomatoes’ organic dried strawberries (until she finished the whole container). With a little encouragement, I can usually convince her to eat some fresh fruits and veg with her snack, too.

    Our go-to snack is banana break (I make in big batches of mini-muffins and freeze them) and whatever fresh fruit is in season.

  • My son loves raisins! He usually has some after school for a snack since their so quick to grab. Apples with dip, strawberry slices, and oranges are hits around here too. “Mix” is big here too-usually whole grain cereal, raisins, sunflower seeds, and a few chocolate chips all tossed together.
