The Week in Bentos: June 7-10, 2010

by Wendy Copley on June 11, 2010

Schooooool’s out for summer! Finally! I am ready for a little break from school and the more relaxing days of summer. Here’s what the lunches looked like for the last week of school:

Monday:

Kindergarten Snack #102: June 7, 2010

Monday’s kindergarten snack was a few strawberries and some whole wheat crackers.

Tuesday:

Kindergarten Bento #334: June 8, 2010

On Tuesday, I sent leftover spaghetti (in the thermos), some pita puffs, strawberries and grapes.

Toddler Bento #25: June 8, 2010

Augie’s lunchbox also had leftover spaghetti with meat sauce along with soycatash and chopped strawberries.

Wednesday:

Kindergarten Bento #335: June 9, 2010

In Wednesday’s kindergarten lunch/snack, I sent: butter lettuce with vinaigrette (in the little yellow box), pita puffs, blueberries, some turkey and a garlic naan and ketchup sandwich.

Toddler Bento #26: June 9, 2010

The toddler lunch had mixed veggies, rice balls, turkey slices, grapes and blueberries.

Thursday:

Kindergarten Bento #336: June 10, 2010

Wyatt’s last-day-of-school lunch had more garlic naan and ketchup sandwiches, baked tofu with ABC shapes cut out (thematic!) and a whole mess of blueberries.

Soooooo…what’s ahead for bentos this summer? Wyatt is going to be at a half day camp for most of the summer so you won’t be seeing regular big kid lunches, but he will be taking snacks. We’ll also be going on outings now and then so I’m sure some of his lunches will pop up occasionally. Augie’s day care schedule will stay the same though, so those will still be showing up regularly. I’m also planning to make more videos so you can look for those in the coming weeks.

  • Did Wyatt eat the lettuce? I've been trying to send salads in Andrew's lunch, but at school he won't eat them. At home he'll eat plate after plate of salad…as long as it has balsamic vinegar on it. No such luck at school. 🙁

  • The garlic naan and ketchup sandwiches are always so funny to me! The pita puffs look yummy. TJ's too?

  • Nope! He's a big salad eater at home, too, and he was SUPER excited that I was giving him a salad. He even told me he ate it when he got home from school but as far as I could tell, he didn't even touch it!

  • Yeah, they totally gross me out, but he loves them. The pita puffs are a new TJs discovery that our neighbor brought over. They're tasty, but basically just like eating crunchy air.

  • Have I mentioned lately how impressed I am with these? I have been thinking about what my kids are going to remember (fingers crossed with me it isn't my frequent sleep deprived grumpiness). Wyatt will absolutely remember these lunches!

Those look like so much fun! P.S. I love how you publish your goals. I really should make a list – I can be so scatterbrained. Love your site!

I love how bright & colorful everything looks! Do you make your own naan (and share a recipe if you do)?
