The Week in Bentos: September 14-18, 2009

Monday:

Kindergartner Snack #10: September 14, 2009

Wyatt just sort of didn’t eat on Monday. He had breakfast, then refused to eat any lunch and then when I looked in his lunchbox when he came home it was still filled with the banana, half a mini baguette and grapes I’d packed for him.

Tuesday:

Kindergarten Bento #235: September 15, 2009

It’s Christmas in September! I let Wyatt pick the cookie cutters he wanted me to use for his tofu and he insisted on the candy cane one. I decided to go all the way with it and cut his garlic toast into tree shapes while I was at it. There are some grapes under the trees too.

Kindergartner Snack #11: September 15, 2009

His snack box had: oyster crackers, dried cranberries, banana and sliced deli turkey.

Wednesday:

Kindergarten Bento #236: September 16, 2009

On Wednesday, I put everything in the laptop lunchbox and told Wyatt he could just eat whatever he wanted at snack and lunch time so there was a lot of stuff in it: banana, a heart-shaped catsup sandwhich, raspberries and strawberries, green beans, ham roll-ups on skewers, dried cranberries and a little bit of chocolate cake in the blue container. I figured he’d eat the cake right off at morning snack, but it came home un-touched. Go figure!

Thursday:

Kindergarten Bento #237: September 17, 2009

Lunch on Thursday was leftover pasta salad from dinner the night before, a dinner roll, an apple-carrot crusher and some strawberries. I’ve turned around on those crushers. When I first bought them I felt like they were a waste of money, but now that our mornings are so much more hectic I’ve decided the convenience is worth a little extra moolah. I’m still not thrilled about the package waste though, so I try to only pack them on the mornings that I’m truly desperate to get a lunch put together.

Kindergarten Snack #12: September 17, 2009

Snack is probably looking familiar by now: dried cranberries, half a banana and a half of a mini baguette.

Friday:

Oh man — I still haven’t gotten my act together with this new kindergarten routine. I was out running errands with the boys this morning and barely got Wyatt home in time to walk to school with the neighbors. In fact, our friends were rounding the corner to our house as I pulled into the driveway. Zach pulled a snack together for him with fruit salad and a catsup sandwich, but he didn’t get a picture of it. I really need to work on being less lame going forward….

I am also struggling with this Kindergarten routine and IC started a month ago! I mistakenly thought that once school started it wouldn't be as hectic as the summer was, but I was way wrong! Taking the kids to school in the am, soccer practice twice a week, dance class once a week for Miss A, and getting around stuff IC needs for what seems like multiple K projects makes for wild times around here! I don't usually have to pack IC's lunch every day, but often 2-3 times a week and so far, he's only eating mini pancakes or cold meat, & sometimes those come home, too. He's very picky-making it difficult for lunches. :)

Bless you heart. It is hard to get into a new routine. AND you do such a wonderful job with everything!! I am going to insist Miss O take her lunch and I am going to show her your posts. I even bought her a new aqua lunch box with the cutest retro looking monkey on it. I will keep you posted. Have a great week!!

I've figured out a way to refill those Crushers – so I can reuse them a few times before I toss them. It makes the cost of them a bit more palatable! =)

Sunnie, please share! How do you refill the crushers? And do you fill them with the same stuff?

This is the best lunch for kids website I have ever found, and I have looked at a lot!! Normally the ideas I see are for things my child would never eat. All of your lunches look delicious (well, maybe not the tofu, but everything else!) Thanks so much for taking the time to post all of this cool information for moms like me that aren't at all creative, but want my child to eat well!
