Whew! I’m back! Wyatt was out of school for all of last week because he was sick. His appetite was really low too, so he barely ate anything. But anyway, here we are back again with a round of lunches!
Tuesday I managed to pack 7 different foods into Wyatt’s lunch. There were whole wheat honey pretzel sticks, banana bread (invisible under the pretzels), a strawberry, ham “roses”, steamed snap peas and grapes. he got a brownie for dessert.
Wednesday I pulled out the food markers and let Wyatt write his own name on the bun. OK — not really. I did that stinkers job. I’m still getting the hang of those markers. I also sent tofu, strawberries and grapes.
Thursday I made a little fruit salad out of strawberries, grapes and apple cubes. That went in the lunch along with banana bread strips, peas and some ham roll-ups.
Friday was a very sad day in this house. As I was beginning to pack his lunch Wyatt intercepted me and started telling me how other kids had different lunches than him. Lunches that just went in their lunch boxes and the foods in them weren’t cut into shapes. And then he said it:
“Mom, can I just have a regular lunch like the other kids?”
Nooooooooooo! I knew it would happen, but I didn’t think it would be so soon!!
I carefully hid my anguish and calmly asked him what kind of things he’d like in his lunch. He chose a whole apple, some tofu and a whole banana. So that’s what I sent. Bleh. Boring, isn’t it? No fun for Mama, that’s for sure!
And when it came home, the only thing that he’d eaten was the food that was in a special box and cut into shapes.
I rest my case.
