The Week in Bentos: February 17-20, 2009

Wyatt is on a cheese stick kick this week, so you’ll be seeing a lot of those below.

Preschooler Bento: February 17, 2009

Tuesday’s lunch had strawberries, a blueberry jam sandwich (“NO peanut butter, Mama!” — Sheesh! I know, I know!) and a cheese stick. I also added a fruit leather star for decoration.

Wednesday I sent another cheese stick, apple slices and deli turkey roll-ups on picks.

Thursday’s lunch was super! It had a half a hamburger bun, baked tofu and strawberries. I couldn’t resist photographing it on the new paper I got.

Preschool Bento #144: February 20,2009

OK, more new paper in this photo. Wyatt is obsessed with this paper pad, so I predict you’ll be seeing a lot of it in the coming weeks. Today’s lunch (fit for a space exporer) is strawberries, banana, cheese stick, saltines (the only kind of cracker Wyatt will eat — believe me, I’ve tried lots of others) and cheddar cheese bears and men.

    What do you do with the cheese scraps after you make the cutouts? I do cheese cutouts for dinner, but usually give him the negative space version on his dinner plate, too.

    Whitney — Either I eat them right then, or my husband does if he’s awake when I make the lunch. Cheese doesn’t go to waste in our house. :) I like the idea of giving the negative space to the kids though. I do that with the tofu pretty often.

    The Super Man lunch is great fun but the rocket paper lunch is my first pick. Your use of color and geometric shapes makes a stellar composition. (Never mind that the cheese and fruit is making me salivate!)

    Please, please, please tell me you sent him with a thermos of Tang on the day he had the rocket ship on his paper!!! So sorry about the tummy bug, it has been running through our school along with pink eye. Super yuck. Have you sent your ideas to Rachel Ray yet? I am serious, you would be a great feature with your bento lunches. Rock on.
