Project 365: Week 5

by Wendy Copley on February 8, 2009

I’m a little late with my week in review post because I haven’t been having the best time lately. We’ve had a bunch of stuff going on with Wyatt with some tough behaviors at preschool and at home. Augie has been a bit challenging as well — nursing constantly, sleeping poorly and pooping all over our bed every single morning. They’ve really been keeping me busy, making me fret and testing my patience. And despite all the attention I’ve been giving my kids, I feel like I’m doing a terrible job as a mom. Our house is a total mess. I’m feeling bad about not working or making any money. Blogging is low on my list.

On the plus side, we’re all well fed! I have been managing to shop and cook meals for everyone. That’s good right? Also, when I look at these pictures, things seem pretty good. I mean, look at these awesome little faces (and that fantastic little booty!):

29/365

January 29, 2009: Augie is getting to be very good at the tummy time! He happily plays on his belly for up to half an hour and he usually slowly spins around in a circle. He also is rolling over with more frequency, though it isn’t a regular event yet. I’m consistently surprised by how quickly these milestones creep up on us the second time around. I’m sure he’ll be crawling before we know it. Yikes!

January 30, 2009: Augie just completely refuses to sit in his bouncy chair or his swing any more because he doesn’t like reclining. He likes to sit straight up. He’s much happier with the bebe pod these days.

31/365

January 31, 2009: I handed the camera to Wyatt to keep him entertained during dinner at Picante. Here his Dad mugs for him while I snarf down some nachos (ahem…totally Weight Watchers approved, of course!).

February 1, 2009: Zach took the boys to the Oakland Zoo and our neighbors from around the corner joined them. The boys hid from the camera by holding their hats in front of their faces. Meanwhile I was at home. Alone. For SIX hours! I haven’t been alone that long since Augie was born. Needless to say, it was AWESOME!

33/365

February 2, 2009: My absolute favorite photo of the week and possibly one of my favorites of the year. Wyatt snapped this right before I gave Augie a bath. Look at that squishy booty! Look at those chubby thighs! I love this.

34/365

February 3, 2009: Wyatt and I messing around with the camera at breakfast.

35/365
February 4, 2009: I got the high chair out of the basement, cleaned it off and let August take it for a spin. He loves being up so high and checking out the world from his new vantage point.

Delurking here as well just to say, you are not the only one. My little boy Arthur is now 7 months old, and I can totally sympathise with the feeling like a terrible mom sometimes.
Some days I go back to sleep after the first morning feed, only manage to get a shower at about lunchtime and seem to accomplish nothing all day, except for feeding, changing and entertaining a cranky, teething, demanding baby.
And then a week later I’l manage to do 2 loads of laundry (including folding and putting it away!), do a bit of housework, unpack the dishwasher, make some baby food (which at this stage is admittedly just pureed vegetables), and have dinner ready and waiting by 6pm.
It does seem to help when the baby behaves himself and naps well! And I don’t even have a toddler to add into the mix, which would add a whole other layer of work and distraction.
Most days are somewhere inbetween the 2, but I seem to have more of the first type of day than the second. The upside is that when I have a good day, I do feel a little like a supermom!

I guess my main point in this over-long comment is just that you are definitely not alone. There are lots of us out there going through the same thing.

And that baby booty is gorgeous! Love it!

  • What she said! And really, we sat down and did the math and me working and paying for childcare and all the eating out etc we would have had a net gain of about $40 a month. That’s it! I still have issues with not feeling like I am achieving much some days but I remember feeling that way when I was working full time. Oh, and I know it seems obvious but when Evie, my not so baby anymore baby started havin blowouts I knew it was time to move up a diaper size regardless of weight guidlines-I used disposeable though so if you use cloth I have no idea. And Evie is definitley hitting that 4yr old crap her own self! AARGH!

Aw, I’m sorry you’re feeling down. I think you’re being *way* too hard on yourself. Your kids are getting plenty of attention, you’re doing the shopping and the cooking — that’s two or three jobs right there! So what if the house is messy, it’ll get cleaned eventually. The boys are both super adorable. That baby tushie just about kills me!
