The Week in Bentos: January 13-16, 2008

by Wendy Copley on January 16, 2009

Here are this week’s bento lunches. All preschool lunches this time — I didn’t make myself any lunches.

Preschool Bento #123: January 13, 2009

Monday night we had home made pizza for dinner, so I took a little of the extra dough and made tiny pepperoni pizzas for Wyatt’s lunch on Tuesday. Here you see two little pizzas and some strawberries. I was going to send the pizzas in his thermos, but as I was assembling his lunch, it became apparent that they would get nasty and soggy if I did that, so instead I just heated them up in the toaster and put them in the regular bento box. Wyatt ate every bite of this lunch, so I guess that worked pretty well.

I was really pressed for time Wednesday morning, so I threw together this lunch very quickly. I sent all his favorites: strawberries, a dinner roll, the last of the pepperoni and a clementine. He ate every bite!

Preschooler Bento #125: January 15, 2009

Thursday I sent a dinner roll, the last little pizza and some fresh pineapple chunks.

Preschool Bento #126: January 16, 2009

This morning’s lunch (Friday) had rolled up turkey slices, pretzel flips crackers, a fruit leather ark, one little tomato to keep stuff from moving around too much and a cup of strawberry and pineapple chunks.

  • Hi, I love seeing what healthy lunches you prepare. I really have no need to pack a lunch, but your blog makes me want to get some Bento boxes. I stay home with my boys but it does give me ideas to serve for lunches. I was curious…Does your son enjoy baked tofu in his lunch?

  • Hi Valerie — Yes, Wyatt loves the store-bought baked tofu I put in his lunches. We started giving it to him when he was less than a year old and he’s eaten it ever since. On the other hand, he despised the home-made baked tofu I made him.

Wendy, I am just in a frenzy about this bento business. I have searched high and low and can only find expensive and limitied selections of bento products. Then, to my delight you post a picture of the Daiso store.. ALAS.. I track down there website, only to find I can only purchase in bulk packages of ten! 🙁 I adore your bento lunches and am especially interested in the silicone cups, and little rice shapers, and other accessories as well as the actual bento boxes. I live in Texas and we do not have a Daiso store. HELP?!

  • Hi Magen — You need to visit this store: http://www.ichibankanusa.com/

Their stock comes and goes, but the prices are very good. They seem to have a lot in stock right now though.
